Jumping through hoops

Why do I do it this way? Would’t it be simpler to just budget $2k a month for the Money Game, tighten up everything else and call it good?

(Well sure if you want to – be my guest.)

I do have a lot of data that’s telling me as a rule, we overbudget. I would have less admin work if I just averaged it out and changed the budget. But it would change everything from a challenging, fun game to horrible, hard “budget submission”.

I know even my admin adverse husband would agree.

We were out this weekend together and it was more fun than usual. As we headed into a new for us market (we were in a different part of town scouting out a car to buy), we were feeling pretty festive. College football is a really big deal and making food for the game is part of the fun. As we picked out some goodies, we reminded each other not to get off track. There was room in the budget for some fun but we didn’t want to go overboard.

Before the Money Game, we weighed more and we spent more. Sadly we also threw away a ton more. If you want to improve things, you can do it the fun way or you can do it in a miserly way. The fun way involves some score keeping. I’m good with that.

Our fuel budget continues to be under as we’re still a one car family right now.
It’s handing us a power up of more than $40.
